Giving Back to God

Here at St. John's we believe, in faith, that stewardship is a three-fold ministry.  Often stewardship is described as our pledge or our financial giving to the church.  But we believe that our stewardship is measured equally importantly in terms of our time and talent.  Our time, our talents and our treasure are all created by God and given to us.

We believe in faith that "God created the heavens and the earth" and that in so doing God created time itself.  Time for all of creation and time for each of us, as measured by the days, weeks, months and years of our lives.

We believe in faith that God created each of us in our uniqueness and that in so doing imparted to us special gifts that make us who we are.  Our time and our talents are gifts from God.

As with our treasure, which is also a gift from God, we are called to give them back to God in thankfulness to carry out our mission: "To Know Christ and to Make Him Known" as individuals and as a church to fulfill Jesus' commandment to love God and our neighbor as ourselves.

So we are called to use our time, our talents and our treasure in ministry within the church and beyond.  The measure of our giving is proportionate.  The more we have received, the greater is to be our gift.

Consider your own time, talents and treasure in light of these words and reflect on how you express your thankfulness to God in terms of what you devote to the ministries at St. John's.  Remember each of us is called to give to the best of our ability and to do so in recognition of the special gifts we have been given.
