Children's Ministries

"Sustain them, O Lord... Give them an inquiring and discerning heart, the courage to will and to persevere, a spirit to know and to love you, and the gift of joy and wonder in all your works."

Book of Common Prayer, Service of Holy Baptism

All Children and youth are welcome at St. John's! We value and honor them for their gentle spirits, for their unconditional love, their expanding and inquiring minds, and because they too belong to God and His Church. We are all members of one body - Jesus Christ our Lord. Children and youth are a dynamic part of the life of St. John's. From the day they are born, through the pitter-patter of their first steps in the church nursery, their journey through Vacation Bible School and Sunday Church School, their participation in receiving Holy Communion and making joyful noises in singing of hymns - this church is filled with the glorious sounds of children.

Whether members or visitors, all children are welcome among us. We invite you and your children to St. John's.

Worship & Learning

Worship is God-centered praise and adoration.  The church's worship service is also one basic way by which people learn what it means to be Christian.  Children learn worship by worshipping with the congregation Sunday after Sunday.

  • They learn that they belong to Christ and are welcome in Christ's church.

  • They come to know The Lord's Prayer, The Creed, the Eucharistic responses and other parts of the service from memory.

  • They build a memory bank of memorable shared experiences of Christian community from which they may draw when they are older.

  • They are enriched by the beauty of music and art as expressions of praise and as human responses to God

  • They hear stories from the Bible read and interpreted; and they begin to see Christian worship as one place where God may speak to them.

  • They participate in Holy Communion and Holy Baptism, celebrations of God's goodness and loving kindness..

  • They discover that they are valued as persons by God and by God's people at church.

Bringing children to worship may not always be easy, but it is an essential part of their growth toward God in Christ.
